Flea Markets in Munich/Olympiapark

Today morning I was selling some stuff away at the Olympiapark flea market that is maybe the most known and definitely biggest flea market in Munich. If there are no bigger happenings going on, the market is open every Friday and Saturday from 7am to 4 pm but basically people start packing about at 1 pm. That also means that if you are going to sell, you should be there early. Specially on Saturdays and during the summer when the place is packed. Fridays in general are more quiet and of course there's nobody if the weather is unbearable.

Olympiapark is a real old school basic flea market. And this is what I like about it. There's a lot of "professional" sellers but also one timers emptying their closets. The price range vary of course depending on the seller but I think it is about like it should be. And you can always offer the price you think would be suitable. Majority of the customers are different foreigners and the rest flea market lovers and people passing by during their morning walk.

My sales was not particularly successful as the customers were mostly
old men looking for tools and so there was no market for my stuff but
the weather was perfect and my neighbor was super fun and nice.

German Music Tips

There are lot of cool German bands at the moment and I recommend for you to check out the German band called KRAFTKLUB. It takes you to the weekend party feeling and as it is already Thursday so it is just the right time for it.

Since we are soon visiting Berlin, I guess the most suitable song is this: "Ich Will Nicht Nach Berlin" (I Don't Want To Go To Berlin). But other good songs are among others: Zu Jung and Mein Leben. You can also find the band in Spotify.

Also BEATSTEAKS are one of the current big rock bands here in Germany. For me they are just quite ok, but no doubt they are good. Maybe it is just that they have some British rock in them and I never really got friends with the British rock/pop. Here my favourites: House On Fire and Hand in Hand. Beatsteaks has made also other quite interesting music videos, you can find more of them in Youtube.

Tonhalle 12.10.

It was a great night at the night market yesterday. I was so happy to be really in there and people seemed to be very happy as well. In addition the blog münchens goldstücke surprised me by introducing me in their great blog that brings you shopping tips in Munich but far away from the shopping street in the city centre. Check it out: münchens goldstücke and RokRokInc. in it.

Julie&Julie got themselves also matching leather bracelets! And my friends "helping".

Autumn colors

I got again an extra inspiration to the autumnal colors from the Alpspitze in Garmisch-Partenkirchen where I stopped by some time ago. It was time to time so foggy that we barely saw fifty meters in front of us. And we surely didn't see any mountains. But in this picture above the high up mountain colors work well together with the grayish blue of the fog against the rocky wall next to the trail.

The foggy scenery transferred into upcycled RokRokInc. jewelry.
Leather pendant and earrings: plain and autumnal with a hint of 90's touch.

Wiesn 2013, closing night

Yesterday was the closing night at the Wiesn and that means my last Oktoberfest time in Munich is done. (Wiesn is how the locals call the Oktoberfest because the fest is held at the Theresienwiese.) The last hour in the fest tent happens without serving, lights out, with sparklers and singing international hits.

We were at the Hofbräu's tent and there the last song is always Angels by Robbie Williams.

I made for my friends the beer cap earrings for the Wiesn and of course everybody got their favorite labels. Here, Madde is wearing Löwenbrau and I am wearing the Augustiner.

Good Old Finnish Marks

In bittersweet feelings we Finns look back at the Finnish Marks. Some of us still want the good old "grannies marks" back. ...And no, I'm not one of them but I do think that some of the last coins that we had pretty prints. I haven't found all of them yet but here you can see at least the ten and five pennies coins and a mark. The ten pennies were my brother-in-laws savings that he never got to use. :D

Ten pennies coin earrings I still have but the other ones are already gone.

Ten pennies coin had on one side it has the Finnish national flower lily-of-the-valley
with the name of the country and the other side states the value of the coin.

One Mark had a Finnish lion print. ...The Finnish lion is basically absurd:
of course lions couldn't survive in Finnish conditions and it also has on
it's head a crown which we also never had (I mean of our own).

Fall Time Inspiration

The fall is unfortunately soon again here and that means autumn colors and shapes also in RokRokInc. jewelries. Here are my newest pieces of the autumn collection and the instructions how to make them. Check out also all the RokRokInc. fall pieces in the Shop/AUTUMN collection!

For leather leaves you need: recycled leather, jewelry findings, pliers, chain,
clothing paint, paint brush, pencil, (glue), scissors, iron, thin cloth and a thick needle.

HOW TO MAKE LEATHER LEAF JEWELRIES

    1. Pick some leaves and put them between a book to dry. Give them a good week time to really get dry.
    2. Choose you recycled leather. If it's too thin, glue two pieces from the back side together.
    3. Draw your leaf to the leather (back side) and cut it.
    4. Spread your paint on the leaf and press it gently on the cut leather. Let it dry.
(Back side of the leaf usually gives a better print.)
    5. Iron the paint side through a thin cloth. (This makes the paint last.)
    6. Make holes to the leather with a thick needle. Modify the leather leaf as you wish.

Hiking in Zillertal, Austria

Last weekend we made a outdoor trip from Munich to near by town in Austria. Zillertal area is great skiing destination but works also for hiking. We took it quite easy since sports is totally not my thing but I do enjoy the nature. Accordingly I do not even own sports wear but even if I did, I doubt I would ever wear them. I also think that why should you wear some gears that you don't feel comfortable in. So here's my hiking style at the Speicher mountain lake.

Converse shoes are most suitable for: 1) Pogoing in a punk gig, 2) bar hopping in hipster bars, 3) kicking grannies at the mall, 4) playing basket ball? 5) hiking at the Alps. And let's face it: Guns N' Roses T-shirt and pyramid studs are most suitable where and when ever.

Fairytalelike scenery at the Krimml waterfalls.
